Mold can suddenly appear from out of nowhere since it doesn't take much for it to grow in an area. Every room in your apartment is free real estate for mold growth if certain conditions are met.

Why Remove Mold

It is important to remove mold in your apartment. It makes your place unappealing. It can also cause health complications for you and your family, such as allergic reactions and respiratory ailments.

Therefore, removing them
as soon as you spot any signs of mold growth in the vicinity is recommended. And don't you worry because we’ve got your back.

In this blog, we will share quick and easy ways to safely remove mold in your apartment.

But First, Equip Safety Gear Against Mold

When dealing with mold removal, you must prepare and wear something that can protect yourself from allergens. Here are a few things you will need to gear up in your battle with mold.

Safety glasses.
Make sure they don't have ventilation holes where mold spores can get in that can cause allergic reactions to your eyes.

Gloves.
Wear gloves to protect your hands if you are dealing with stubborn mold and must use a more potent cleaning agent.

Mask.
Avoid breathing in the spores that mold releases, which can compromise your lungs. Not only that, but you also get to avoid breathing in the mold's foul odor.

Open your windows.
Though this is not a gear you can wear, this is something that's still important during mold removal. Without proper ventilation, mold will circulate in your area, and prolonged exposure to it is bad news.

Your Choice of Weapon (Cleaning Agent)

If you are dealing with minor mold in your apartment, removing it doesn't require using a specially-made mix just to get rid of it. Who would have thought that the perfect weapons you'll ever need for mold removal are stuff you can find in your home? You'll be ready to face mold head-on with these cleaning agents, a rag or brush, and a spray bottle.

Vinegar

Did you know that one of the most common ingredients used in the kitchen can be effective against mold? Other than making food tasty, white vinegar's slightly acidic property is enough for mold removal. It can help get rid of not only the top layer of the mold but also the membrane underneath it. However, avoid using apple cider vinegar since it promotes mold growth.

Put white vinegar in a spray bottle without diluting it with water. Spray on the moldy area until it's very wet, and leave it there for an hour. Scrub the area with a brush or sponge until you remove any traces of mold. Rinse the area with warm water and let it air dry.

Hydrogen Peroxide

Do you remember that liquid that bubbles over when poured on your wounds? Yes, that same liquid is also effective against mold. This is because mold is a fungus, and hydrogen peroxide has antifungal properties.

You can spray a 3% solution in a spray bottle anywhere you see mold. Enjoy watching it fizz and bubble before letting it sit for ten minutes. Once it's done its thing, scrub with a brush or old toothbrush. Increase pressure and intensity for stubborn mold. Towel-dry the area, and you're done. Repeat the process if you see mold leftovers.

Detergent and Bleach

You may have some anti-mold agents in the kitchen, medicine cabinet, or laundry room. Yes, what you use to clean clothes can also help clean mold. Though they might be less effective against molds on drywall or wood, they are excellent on tiles and bathtubs.

For detergents, apply the detergent and water on a clean rag and scrub the area. Repeat until the mold is removed. Once done, dry the surface with a clean towel.

For bleach, prepare the room by opening the windows and ventilating the area. This way, you won't have to breathe in the fumes from the bleach. Make a diluted mix with one cup of bleach to one gallon or 16 cups of water. Pour your diluted mix into a spray bottle and spray on the moldy area. Leave it for a minute or two before scrubbing the mold clean. Rinse and air dry.

For detergent and bleach cleaning, it's best to throw away the cloths and rags used to remove mold.

Getting rid of mold has never been easier, more cost-effective, or more convenient. However,
did you spot a greenish-black mold? Did you smell something funky but can't pinpoint the location? Or do you have moldy areas that occupy over ten square feet? For those cases, you should seek a professional's help.

Have you experienced one of the three questions above? Or the mold stayed stubborn despite using the secret weapons in this blog?
